BURNS FAMILY FRESH GROCER RECOGNIZED BY PHILADELPHIA POLICE DEPARTMENT AND CITY COUNCIL FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS
PHILADELPHIA (June 30, 2016) – Members of Philadelphia Police Department’s 14th District gathered at La Salle University’s newly opened School of Business yesterday to celebrate and recognize The Fresh Grocer of La Salle and other community partners for their support and work throughout the district. They were joined by Councilwoman Cindy Bass and PA State Senator-Elect Sharif Street along with stakeholders from La Salle University’s administration and faculty.
Captain Sekou Kinebrew of the 14th District presented The Fresh Grocer of La Salle with the Civic Leader Award for the supermarket’s “generous commitment of time, support and backing of our endeavors.”
Councilwoman Bass and Senator-Elect Sharif co-presented The Fresh Grocer of La Salle with a Citation from the Council of the City of Philadelphia for its “tireless efforts and dedicated service to the community.”
The Fresh Grocer of La Salle, owned and operated by the Burns Family, is dedicated to community improvement, community service and supporting the local police force in their efforts to serve and protect the district. Throughout the year the store provides dinners to the officers working on holidays, and provides food, food vouchers and gift cards for community events, senior citizens and families.
“The community is a better place because of their great work with the Police Districts and families in the neighborhood,” said Councilwoman Bass. “Their efforts may sometimes seem overwhelming, but that does not stop them from fulfilling the mission to be helpful when and where needed.”
“The Fresh Grocer continues to serve as an anchor base for the community through economic and community development by supporting initiatives including career and job training, community outreach and economic growth,” said Senator-Elect Sharif.
“It is an honor to be recognized by our friends from the 14th District and our elected officials,” said Patrick J. Burns, president and CEO of Burns’ Family Neighborhood Markets, owner and operator of The Fresh Grocer of La Salle. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to support our communities and local law enforcement. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the police department, La Salle University and our elected officials to make our community a better place to live, learn and work.”
The Fresh Grocer of La Salle is located at 5301 Chew Ave in Philadelphia, PA, open daily from 6 AM to Midnight.
